Microbiology

In the department of microbiology our Testing laboratory offers performance of microbiological tests of solid materials (sludge, sand, soil, waste, biowaste, substrates), water (ground water, drinking water, surface water, waste water, raw water, etc.), water extracts, water deposits and technical gases.

The tests are performed in the fields of:

  • Environment protection
  • Waste management
  • Water management
  • Foodstuffs, feedstuffs, articles of current use
  • application of biotechnologies
  • quality testing of bio-enzyme products
  • purity of technical gases

Accredited tests:

Solid samples (sludges, sands, soils, biowaste, substrate):

  • Enumeration of thermotolerant coliform bacteria and E.coli by spread plate method (TNI CEN/TR 16193, AHEM No. 7/2001, AHEM No. 1/2008)
  • Enumeration of intestinal streptococci (enterococci) by spread plate method (AHEM No. 7/2001, AHEM No. 1/2008),
  • Detection of Salmonella spp. by spread plate method (AHEM No. 7/2001, AHEM No. 1/2008)
  • Enumeration of total aerobic heterotrophic bacteria at 20 °C by pour plate method (ČSN 75 7842)
  • Enumeration of total bacteria decomposing petroleum hydrocarbons by spread plate method (Häusler J., 1995)
  • Enumeration of total anaerobic bacteria by pour plate method (Ambrožová J., 2004, ČSN 75 7841)

Water samples (water, water sediment):

  • Enumeration of culturable microorganisms at 22 °C and 36 °C by pour plate method (ČSN EN ISO 6222)
  • Detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria by membrane filtration method (ČSN EN ISO 9308-1)
  • Enumeration of coliform bacteria in non-desinfected water by membrane filtration method (ČSN 75 7835)
  • Enumeration of thermotolerant coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli by membrane filtration method (ČSN 75 7837)
  • Enumeration of intestinal enterococci by membrane filtration method (ČSN EN ISO 7899-2)
  • Enumeration of total aerobic bacteria at 20 °C by pour plate method (ČSN 75 7842)
  • Enumeration of total bacteria decompostingpetroleum hydrocarbons by spread plate method (Häusler J., 1995)
  • Enumeration of total anaerobic bacteria by pour plate method (Ambrožová J., 2004, ČSN 75 7841)
  • Determination of sulphate-reducing bacteria by MPN method (ASTM D4412-15)
  • Method for the detection of sulphate-redducing bacteria (ASTM D4412-15)
  • Method for the detection of Salmonella spp. by spread plate method (ČSN ISO 19250)

Non-accredited tests:

  • Enumeration of yeasts and moulds
  • Enumeration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Detection of enzymatic activity (proteolytic, amylolitic, lipolytic, cellulolytic)
  • Enumeration of aerobic bacterial spores

Sample quantity:

  1. Soil, sludge, biowaste, waste and similar matrixes- approx. 200 g wet weight of sample in glass or plastic container or bag and deliver the sample to the laboratory as quickly as possible (within 24 h).
  2. Water - all water samples should be taken in sterile sampling containers, which our laboratory can provide upon request. 250 mL of water sample is usually enough. Refrigerate the sample at (5 ± 3) °C and deliver it to the laboratory as quickly as possible (within 24 h).
  3. Other samples - it is suitable to consult sample quantity with the laboratory staff.
